Small Things

I am just a tiny cog in the huge wheels of society, but what little I do, I do with much love.

Returning to play with Alcohol inks, this time on transparent film.

Alcohol inks on clear film: I wiped the film with Alcohol Blending solution first, then squeezed droplets of ‘Butterscotch, Ginger, Espresso & Gold’ inks onto it, allowing them to pool outwards and overlap. You need to work quickly as the inks dry fast.

Cut out 2 leaves from the now coloured film using Tim Holtz ‘Tattered Leaves’ siz656927 die. Cut out 2 more in plain cream cardstock.

Flip the coloured leaves over and stamp one of the script wordings (there are 3 in the set) from Stamper’s Anonymous ‘Reflections’ CMS111 set. These are mirror image stamps, so when you flip the leaves over the correct way, the wording will be legible. StazOn are the only inks that are effective stamping onto clear film, but you can’t stamp onto the same side as your alcohol inks as they will react together and cause bleeding. I used a dark brown Spectrum Noir pen (or you can use Copic) to darken the leaf stems.

Glue each of the coloured leaves onto a cream leaf, correct way up. Glue onto top half of plain cream folded card. [Note: as I ended up putting these leaves onto a plain cream backing card, this step wasn’t really necessary, but at the time, I was still playing around with different background options, so they needed the plain cream behind them to appreciate the colours and wording on them].

Stamp out wording (by PSX) and mat with darker brown card. Glue onto bottom half of card.

Blue Birdy

It’s a bit like groundhog day around here at the moment – eat, sleep, make cards, repeat. I do love making cards, but will be happy when I am feeling better and will be too busy to do so.

This is the sequel to my previous post, being the other bird in Tim Holtz ‘Feathered Friends’ set. Same method for the background too, just used different Distress ink colours (Tumbled Glass, Bundled Sage & Crushed Olive).

The bird nest stamp is an old PSX, the gumleaves from ScrapDragon, and I can’t remember what company the ‘smile’ die is from sorry, but know I bought it from the Scrapbook Store in North Perth.

Over a week since I came down sick, and now I have just have an annoying cough, which will no doubt linger for months. A good excuse to stay home and play in my craft room anyway. I hope you’re not ‘sick’ of my frequent posting already, haha.

The bird die is from Tim Holtz ‘Feathered Friends’ set siz664433. The wattle & wording stamps were from Stamp-it (no longer available sorry). I put dabs of thick glue over the wattle flowers and applied yellow Flower Soft. The background was created by inking up an acrylic block with Distress inks (Broken China, Evergreen Bough & Mustard Seed), spritzing with water, then stamping it onto white cardstock.

Two more cards using this particular Tim Holtz die. The girl, bee and wish stamps are from Stampin’ Up. The kite I made myself, and the gold Happy Birthday is a sticker.

And then I added a bird (from Tim Holtz “Feathered Friends” die set siz664433) to the card from my last post.

Colourful Field of Flowers

Using the same Tim Holtz ‘Flower Field’ die from my last post, I did the card in reverse, colouring the foreground and keeping the background clean. I cut the flowers out in white then sponged it with various Distress inks before attaching it the background layers. The little butterflies are done with a hand punch. I have one more variation coming up using this die before I move onto something else.

Gracefully

Budha – In the end, only 3 things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you.

The last is the hardest.

I think Tim Holtz’s “Flower Field” die siz665369 in silhouette, is quite eye-catching against this Distress Stain Spray background. The wording is from Stamp-it Australia (no longer available sorry, but you could easily substitute another wording). Simple, but effective.

Be my Honey

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! I have made this card especially for you, to add a little sweetness to your day. Much too soppy for me to give my husband, haha.

The bee stamp is from Prima’s Stamp-n-add “Moth Wings”. There were 2 designs in the set, 2 bodies and 2 wings that you stamp separately. After stamping it out, I added Glossy Accents to the wings, sprinkling glitter on whilst still wet. The wording I just did on the computer.

The honeycomb is from one of Tim Holtz/Sizzix “Mixed Media” die sets. I cut it out on 2-sided sticker paper. After positioning the individual pieces onto my card, I lay some mulit-coloured Gilding flakes over. The flakes stuck to the sticky shapes, then I brushed the excess off with a stiff paint brush. I didn’t realise until I’d completed the card, that I’d laid the honeycomb shapes in a different direction on the bottom, than I had on the top. Oops. No time to re-do now.
