Christmas Baby?

I’m not sure if this card is supposed to be a baby card or a Christmas card, it’s a bit of a hybrid. I find card making very therapeutic, and sometimes use symbolism to work through issues that are personal to me at the time. My mother’s passing marked the end of an era for our family. My focus now will be on the younger generations coming up. She was mother to 5, grandmother to 11 (soon to be 12) and great-grandmother to 1. Her middle name was JOY. This card shows the circle of life – we are born, we live and grow, then we die. I will always remember my mother with much LOVE, but am glad she is now resting in PEACE.

Gumnut Baby Leaf Wash

Washed out gumnut leaves… I borrowed this gumleaf die from a friend at a craft camp getaway last month, but loved it so much I had to buy my own. It’s just called ‘Australiana dies Gumnuts and Gum Leaves’ from ScrapDragon (must be their own brand maybe). I think it works so well in conjunction with Paper Roses’s ‘Snugglepot & Cuddlepie’ stamp.

Using the same Gumnut Babies stamp for the foreground, I created the card below with a Uniquely Creative ‘Slimline Gum Leaves’ die as the background (again borrowed from my friend). I cut the die out twice – once in white for the pattern outline, then again from a piece of card pre-coloured with various green Distress inks. I glued the white outline onto a sponged Distress background, then glued the green mottled leaves inside the white framework. I must say it was an exercise in patience piecing all the leaves back in, and it makes for a pretty large card (DL size) in the end, so don’t think I’ll be putting this die on my shopping list.
