I have been sick all week with the “man flu” (goodness, never realised how debilitating it can be) and have now passed it onto my husband, who until a few days ago was hale & hearty, and over-confidant in his own defenses ability to stave off infections – but who now feels he is ‘dying‘. So apart from walking the dog, we’ve been self-isolating, which is ok because it’s winter and the weather is not so inviting outdoors. I haven’t felt like doing much, but have managed to finish off a few cards I had started.

The red in this background called to me, as I feel I need a little more energy in my life at the moment. It was done with Wild Honey & Aged Mahogany Distress Stain sprays. The 2 stamp images (Gumnut Flower & Gumnut Leaves) were designed by Helen Williams for Stamp-it. I coloured in with watercolour pencils and used red & yellow Liquid Pearls to decorate the flowers. The corner die in gold paper is from Tim Holtz ‘Mixed Media’ die set siz660220. The ‘Best Wishes’ is a sticker from the $2 store.

A series of gumnut baby cards (more to follow) featuring Paper Rose’s ‘Bush Babies’ 17529, this set with Stamp-it’s ‘Eucalyptus leaves’ behind. The background for the sleeping baby with the yellow Flowersoft jacket, was from a painted gelli plate print, which I coloured with pencils after stamping the leaves on top. The others were created with Distress Stain sprays.

New Aussie Gumnut Baby

We have two new babies expected within our extended family over the next few months, how exciting! May Gibbs is always a go-to classic in my book for a new little Aussie, but I will be making a few other varieties too so I have a selection to choose from when the time comes.

Not sure which version of this card I like. I felt the baby got lost among the gum leaves in the first one, so I placed it onto a mounted cream circle, then added a bow at the finish. Hmm, still undecided – 1, 2 or 3?

I cut the Gum leaf dies (Paper Rose: Gum Leaves 2 & 3) from a piece of card I had previously coloured with Distress Stains. It turned out too dark to use for a stamped background, so I put it aside for cutting leaves out of. I added a little Dark Chocolate Liquid Pearl to highlight the gumnuts.

The May Gibbs stamp images are from Stamp World: ‘Nuttybub and Nittersing’ C215 and ‘Nuttybub in a Birdsnest’ E236. I stamped them both onto a seperate piece of card, coloured them lightly, then cut them out. I added some Grey and Sage Ultrafine Flowersoft to the nest, then Magic Mounted the image over the gum leaves.

Below is a another card using the same Birdsnest Baby stamp along with ‘Just Peeking’ K476 also from Stamp World. I think I like it better, sometimes simple is best.
