Have Courage

It’s very cosy here in our comfort zone, but we won’t discover anything new, unless we have the courage to step outside it once in a while. They don’t have to be big steps, they can be little baby ones to start. The first one is always the hardest.

Harbour Boats

I gave myself a stern talking to before going to the Perth Convention Craft Fair this week, that I would NOT buy anymore stamps! However I couldn’t resist this one by Carabelle studio as I have a particular weakness for boats (looking at them that is, not actually travelling in them). To get me warmed up I did my first sample (above) with watercolours similar to that suggested on the packaging.

In an attempt to get a completely different look, I was going for grungy with my second sample, as I experimented with a Distress Oxide background (Faded Jeans, Shaded Lilac, Worn Lipstick, Carved Pumpkin and Squeezed Lemonade for the sky; Peacock Feathers and Cracked Pistachio for the sea). I think I overworked the top of the sky area too much, but I am still playing and learning how to use my Oxide inks. It’s all a bit of a serendipitous journey.

With a sadly dried up white acrylic paint, I then went over the top to colour the boats, lighthouse and highlight waves. The stars were tiny splats of silver alcohol ink, and the moon was coloured with a combination of yellow acrylic ink and shimmer mist.
