Thinking of my father, and the empty spaces left behind…

stamps: Down by the Seaside 60-30059 by Inkadinkado; The Tide Recedes 4228F by Stamp-it

die: Tim Holtz Frameworks ‘Trellis’ siz659431

inks: Spun Sugar, Antique Linen & Weathered Wood Distress Stain Sprays

For this card I lifted out the trellis part, inked around the edges with a Weathered Wood Distress pad and Magic Mounted it back into place. I removed 2 of the shapes and cut out a single one from the background card which I placed above the empty spaces. The shape with birds on, I Magic Mounted up.

VARIATION:

stamps: Sandcastle 60-00558H by Inkadinkado; Waves 481E by All Night media; Walk with Me D13007 by Impression Obsession

die: Tim Holtz Frameworks ‘Trellis’ siz659431

inks: Spun Sugar, Antique Linen & Tumbled Glass Distress Stain Sprays

For this card I glued the trellis part down flat, then lifted out 3 shapes to leave the background showing through. The shapes beneath the sandcastle, I lifted out, sponged around the edges with sepia ink and replaced with Magic Mount under 1 side only to tilt them, the 2 at top tilted right, the bottom 2 left.

Blue Trellis

This post is in memory of my father who died last Wednesday 6th December. He didn’t come from London but Hartlepool which is in the north east of England. He left England when he was 20 and traveled and worked in many countries – Australia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and spent many years in West Africa where he met his wife and had 4 of his 5 children. He returned to Australia with his family in 1973 to settle.

I actually made this card for my brothers birthday which was the day my father took gravely ill and was taken into hospital. He and his wife had recently spent some time in London on holiday. My father was quite a strong willed person and I was so glad he managed to get through that Saturday, it would have been even more devastating for my brother if his father had died on his birthday. As it was he waited until all his children from various parts of the country had assembled by his bedside before passing away half an hour later. He will be sorely missed.

I used Tim Holtz Frameworks ‘Trellis’ die siz659431, the  same as in the ‘Peach Trellis’ flower card a few posts back. I had assembled all the little pieces and attached with glue and various levels of Magic Mount, but when I went to stamp my ‘London Gent’, because it was Bazzill card, it didn’t stamp well as all the texture from the card showed through. Being a solid image, it really needed to be stamped onto a smooth surface, something I didn’t think through beforehand. So I had to go to plan B, and stamp onto a piece of clear film cut to size and attach it to my card front with black brads. I placed black Magic Mount underneath the man (so that worked well being a solid image). It was a little harder to photograph because of the reflection from the film, so had to do it on a slight angle, which made my words distorted as then they weren’t directly underneath. I cut out the 55 from 2 different fonts and glued them onto the top of the clear film.
