Captured Fairies

Being a wee winged thing (fairy) is not all the pixie parties and fairy floss you’ve been led to believe. There are traps for the unwary and those not fast enough of flight. And as we know, everyone looovves fairies and would like nothing better than to feast upon them with their – eyes, or (gulp) otherwise.

I occasionally have to indulge my warped sense of humour, so here are some cards featuring fairies in distress. Look away now if you feel the following images may upset you. (Obviously I have way too much time on my hands).

Fairy Post

Letters seem to be a thing of the past now (along with beautiful handwriting), but I still remember the excitement of getting a personal letter in the mail! I am always drawn to designs with postal marks or lovely script on them. And of course fairies are a constant favourite. This is a Stampendous stamp CRW099 “Birthday Fairy”. I stamped image in black Archival ink over an alcohol ink coloured background, and again onto some white card so I could colour in the fairy, cut her out and mount over image on coloured card. I placed a bit of Magic Mount under her skirt to lift it up but glued the rest of body down onto card. Drizzled some Glossy Accents over skirt and sprinkled glitter over whilst still wet. Added silver Stickles to star on wand. Assembled finished card front onto various coloured matting cards. The pink spirals is a scrap from a plastic sheet by KI Memories. Added some rhinestones for bling. See below for slight variations – same, same, but different: The one below was a bit hard to photograph as the light reflected off the silver alcohol inks in the background and silver stickers.

Moon Shadow Mists

I have been having a play with Lindy’s Stamp Gang ‘Moon Shadow Mists’. When you purchase them, they only have a small amount of powder in the bottle. You need to boil the kettle and add hot water to the fill line at the top right of the bottle label. Let them cool. Place the lid back on and give them a good shake.

When you spray them out, the liquid comes out a dirty brown colour, it is not till it dries that you see the shimmer colour coming through. I found the larger the droplets, the darker the colour. It is a very unpredictable science and to be honest I found it a bit frustrating. In the end I resorted to using a pipette to drip larger droplets about strategically. ( – as there are no rules in art, I don’t classify that as cheating, haha).
