“Man with Balloon” is my 3rd card from Tim Holtz set ‘Theories’. I spritzed the card with Sunflower Sparkle Perfect Pearl Mists to try and lighten it but still didn’t feel that the man stood out enough, so stamped him again and embossed in black, then cut him out and Magic Mounted him over original. To further delineate him, I added the strips of washi tape and paper behind him to help emphasis his outline. This also helped to lighten the mood and make it a bit more playful. The balloon was cut from a circle which I coloured in then covered with Glossy Accent and attached a piece of string to. The wording I masked off from a Stamp-it stamp (shown at right). I was going to put the kids in too, but as they are all running away from him felt it gave the wrong vibe:) The right hand border is the edge of a filmstrip die.

“Hello There” is my 4th card from this series. I wasn’t quite sure what ambience to create with this ‘meeting of men’. I felt it had a slightly sinister vibe (hence the light bulb). Funnily enough it has turned out my favourite.

Rather than cut out the men individually, I stamped them onto a lighter coloured card and cut out a rectangle around them, allowing some of the background graffiti to show around edges. I matted them onto a very thin border of black card and Magic Mounted them into position. The light bulb I masked off from a Stamper’s Anonymous stamp which I cut out, Magic Mounted and Glossy Accented, attaching the string behind. The ‘Hello’ is a Penny Black die cut in gold foilboard. The black edging at right is a border punch. I chalked the ‘H’ on man’s shirt yellow to match.

Theories 1 & 2

From the Tim Holtz collection, here are 4 cards using his ‘Theories’ set (Stamper’s Anonymous CMS329).

I stamped the 4 images from set in black ink onto a 12×12 card which had been sprayed with various Distress Stains (Wild Honey, Vintage Photo, Peeled Paint..). I had already started playing with the bike one before I remembered to take a photo. As I began constructing my cards, I regretted my choice in background ink colours as they proved a little too dark for the men to stand out against them. To get around that, I stamped the men out again onto scrap card, cut them out and Magic Mounted them over originals.

For the bike card – I highlighted the bike frame with Gold Foil and the tyres with Black Accents. I applied Walnut Stain ink through Chevron stencil at top and die cut an arrow in black card and some cogs in copper card. I put gold brads through center of each tyre spoke. I gold embossed wording from set onto black card and added to top of card with folded strip of Japanese paper behind.

My second card from the set is the Man on the Tightrope. This was the quickest and easiest. I cut out 2 ‘Frameworks’ Sizzix die 659431, one in black, one in tan card and attached them along the base. I also cut out some birds in black, which I glued on overlapping the wording (from Stamp-it).
