Piglet & Pooh

Lovely soft colours on this alcohol ink background, so made it into a card suitable for a young child. I simply cut the background into 4 uneven quarters, then matted them with a very narrow border using the same aqua card as for the main backing card. I didn’t attempt to colour in images, felt I could get away without doing so.

I have had these Winnie the Pooh stamps for many years. The 2 on the bottom are from All Night Media and they don’t stamp out that well any more. Top left is by Rubber Stampede and top right by Stamp-it.

Baby Ted

Welcome baby Ted! My nephew and his wife have just had their first baby – a boy. They decided to name him Edward (Teddy) after my father, who sadly passed away 2 years ago. He arrived 3 weeks early, so appears to be showing characteristics of his namesake already, eager to get going and looking for adventure! I can’t wait to meet him. He will be much loved.

stamps: ‘Snug’ 3824F by Penny Black; ‘To Hug and Hold’ T111-1D by My Sentiments Exactly

die: ‘Baby Heart’ by Alexandra Renke

I started this cross-stitch for the baby room once I knew they were expecting (his mother picked out the design she wanted), however as he came early it’s not quite finished yet. Off to get my ‘Whooping Cough’ vaccine now, as apparently you’re not allowed near little ones without it (at least until they’ve had their first vaccines at 6-8 weeks). I don’t want to wait that long for my first cuddle!!

New Beginnings

December 31, 2015

baby yellow mushroomHappy New Year everyone! I thought it would be appropriate to start off the New Year with some baby cards –  celebrating the beginnings of new life.  Our family was blessed on Boxing Day with another baby granddaughter.

To create the background for this card,  stamp and emboss the wording from Stamp-It’s set 092 in white onto some watercolour paper. Then use Squeezed Lemonade & Spun Sugar Distress Stains directly over the wording to loosely colour. This will make the white embossed wording show up more. You can spritz lightly with water or use a wet paintbrush to help blend the colours if needed and to create a drippy effect.

Next stamp and emboss the mushrooms (4943E) in white at the top left-hand side of wording. Stamp the mushroom caps a 2nd time onto some scrap pieces of watercolour paper. Colour them in using Distress pens or Distress re-inkers and a waterbrush. Cut out the mushroom caps on scrap pieces and magic mount over full mushroom image.

Punch out butterfly shape in pink card using Cristina Re punch. Cut one wing off and place behind top wing. Put some coloured scraps of watercolour paper beneath wings to show through cut-out pattern. Attach to card. Decorate butterfly with Star Dust Stickles.

Stamp Baby word (3132D) with Rose Madder Archival pad onto piece of watercolour paper. Sponge around edge with Spun Sugar Distress Pad. Matt with Pale Yellow Mi-Teintes card and magic mount onto card at base of mushrooms.

Attach finished front card onto layer of Blossom Bazzill Card, then backing card of Pale Yellow Mi-Teintes card.

See below for some alternative baby card finishes, using the same background.
