The Sea – Shell

  The Lure of the sea…

stamps: Shell 3581H by JudiKins; Background Fishing Net CS255 by KaiserCraft; wording (custom)

inks: Clear Versamark Pad; Jet Black & Sepia Archival Pads; Lake Mist Adirondack Pad; Crushed Olive, Shabby Shutters & Bundled Sage Distress Pads; Tattered Rose & Old Paper Distress Stain Sprays; Frayed Burlap Distress Pen

papers: Marshmallow, Adobe & Pickle Bazzill Cards

accessories: White Embossing Powder; White Dabber Paint; real Starfish; Sammy Seahorse die (for seaweed) SD365 by Joanna Sheen

adhesives: Two-sided Tape; Liquid Glue

tools: Big Shot Machine; Heatgun; Water Spritzer, Water Brush; Sponge Block; T-grid; Scissors

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Stamp shell in clear ink onto Marshmallow card and emboss in white. Heat set.
  2. Spritz card lightly with water, then the Distress Stain Sprays until covered to your satisfaction. Heat set. If you want you can add a little shading to shell using your Frayed Burlap pen & water brush.
  3. With the aid of your t-grid, align SEA wording where desired and stamp out with black Archival pad. Mine did not stamp out really crisp black, but for this card I am happy with that weathered look.
  4. Now to create a ‘mask’ for your shell so that when you stamp the fishing net over the top, it will appear too be beneath it: Stamp shell in black ink onto scrap paper and cut out. Lay cut out over embossed shell on main card. Now that your shell is ‘masked’, stamp out the fishing net with Lake Mist pad over the top. I almost thought this colour was a little too light, so choose a darker ink if you prefer. Lift mask off shell.
  5. Cut out 2 seaweed strands from seahorse die in white card. Sponge them with combination of green ink pads. Heat set. I thought they were a bit dark, so dabbed over them with white paint to lighten and add texture. Heat set. Position on card and glue into place. Add small starfish.
  6.
  7. Lightly sponge around card edge with sepia ink, then distress with edge of scissors. Adhere finished card front onto green matting with two-sided tape, then onto backing card of pale peach.

I have used the same shell stamp for this card.

I stamped shell with a Coffee Archival Pad onto white card, then coloured with pencils. Added highlights with a Sailor Glue pen and when dry, laid gold Fab Foil sheet over. I cut out shell and Magic Mounted it over script background.
