Leaves of Gratitude – Masked Background

stamps: Curled Leaf F-3100 by PSX; Vine Leaf 1497BMini Leaf 1499B & Handwriting all from Stamp-it; Gratitude A3079 by Hero Arts

INSTRUCTIONS:

I used the Distress mini pads, squishing some ink randomly onto my teflon mat (or you could use a flat piece of plastic). Spritz inks with water, then place white card over. Lift off. Now spray inks on card if you need to make them blend and run into rivulets. Dry with a heatgun.

Cover your card with clear vellum and trace around your inky shape with a pencil.

Cut out shape. Throw away the inside piece. We will be using the outside area as a mask. (For this reason it is important to try and keep the outside piece relatively intact ie. don’t hack it into pieces).

Lay your vellum mask around your inked shape (this will protect your white background from getting any script on it). Ink up script stamp with black Archival ink and stamp over.

When you remove the mask, you should have your script showing over your inked areas only. I love the way the words follow every little drip out. It is important when choosing your stamp, that the design is very close or you will lose the effect.

Next I stamped out my leaves and coloured them with watercolour pencils and a water brush. After cutting them out, I spritzed some gold sparkle over. Dry with a heatgun.

Stamp your Gratitude wording, sponge and mount onto card. Magic Mount the large curling leaf and some of the smaller ones, gluing the remainder down flat. Assemble card layers.

  1. What a fabulous card, and great instructions. I love that green inked area with the script printed on it. Ooh, can’t wait to give this one a try. A good reminder about masking thank you xoxo
