Darkest Night
One of my favourite sayings is that “Tomorrow is another day”. No matter what mistakes you made, what sorrows you suffered, after a good cry and a few hours sleep, I TRY to put yesterday behind me and face the new day with hope in my heart and a smile on my face. “Each day is a new beginning”.

inks: Clear Pigment Pad; Jet Black & Watering Can Archival Pads; Squeezed Lemonade, Dried Marigold, Barn Door, Tumbled Glass, Bundled Sage, Shabby Shutters, Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain & Black Soot Distress Pads
papers: White Matt Card; Brown & Moss Bazzill Cards
accessories: Silver Embossing Powder; Perfect Pearl & Sunflower Sparkle Perfect Pearl Powders
tools: Sponging block, Paintbrush; Heatgun
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Stamp wording in clear pigment pad and emboss in silver at left side of white card. Stamp tree in black Archival ink at right side of card.
- Tear scrap paper to form a valley shape. Lay this paper down over your card, covering most of it. Make sure you can see the tree roots beneath though, as it’s important that they are rooted into the ground, not floating in the sky. With a sponging block, sponge light brown ink over torn scrap onto your card to shade your hills in.
- Put some red ink on your finger and dab at base of valley. Do the same with orange ink, smudging over the red an
d radiating outward slightly. Now do the same with the yellow ink, creating a haze around your sun. (You can use a sponging utensil if you don’t like getting your fingers dirty). Sponge Tumbled Glass Distress ink outwards from sun, covering top right of card.
- Sponge Walnut Distress pad at bottom left of card and Black Soot at top left of card together, blending into the lighter colours on the right of card. (*optional: use the edge of your Walnut pad directly onto card to create hill-like pattern).
- Stamp birds in grey ink flying a
way from tree
- Dip your fingers into Bundled Sage and Shabby Shutter Distress pads and use to colour foliage of tree.
- Heat set inks with heatgun. Stamp celestial border in clear pigment ink above wording and colour with Perfect Pearl and Sunflower Sparkle Perfect Pearls applied with dry paintbrush.
- Attach strip of dark brown card (of same length as original white card) to top and bottom edges of finished card front. I deliberately left the sides without the brown frame, to give the illusion that the scene continues off to either side of that shown.
- Fix layers onto folded grey backing card.
