Bike Teabag

20160816_134417

With this weather being so cold the last few months, I have found myself drinking lots of tea. Rather than throw away my teabags, I have re-cycled them into cards. Something a little different and quirky.

  1. When the teabag is dry, empty it out. Depending on the shape of the bag, I either tear across the top under the staple or open out completely. Each one will be a bit different. I deliberately don’t try to be neat, as I think the torn edges and stains add character to the overall design.
  2. Iron your teabag. This makes it easier to stamp onto. I placed my iron directly onto the bag on medium heat. The bags are quite hardy and (obviously) can take a bit of heat and also water. This particular bag was quite dark so decided to use it for a man’s card.

stamps: Bike from World’s Fair ICO347 by Graphic 45; Leaf Swirl 3968G by Stamp-it

inks: Jet Black Archival Pad; Clear Versamark Pad; Bronze Perfect Pearl Mists

papers: Walnut & Pinecone Bazzill Cards; Copper Shimmer Card

accessories: Mini Gears #98847 Memory Box die; Copper Embossing Powder; Earl Grey teabag (used)

adhesives: Two-sided Tape; Magic Mount; Tombo Liquid Glue

tools: Heatgun; Big Shot Machine

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.Stamp leaf swirl across top of lighter brown card in black ink. Stamp man on bike image below it (doesn’t matter if left side is not perfect as it will be covered by teabag). Stamp man on bike with wording onto teabag. 20160815_174515

2. Fix teabag into place over main image. Because this particular teabag was so dark, I used two-sided tape, knowing it wouldn’t show through. 20160815_174842Put square of Magic Mount onto tag of teabag and secure in position.

3. Apply Clear ink from Versamark pad direct to edges of light brown card. Pour copper embossing powder over while still wet, then heatset using heatgun. Do all 4 sides. 20160816_134543

4. Lightly spritz base of card with Bronze Perfect Pearl Mists. Attach to folded dark brown backing card20160816_134047.

5. Cut out mini gears die twice inĀ  copper shimmer card using Big Shot machine. Randomly ink gears with black ink. Use liquid glue to attach them onto card where desired.
