Seahorse Siblings

Finally got together with my crafty ladies for a day of card making, (though I rarely ever get a card completed during these sessions as I’m usually too busy talking)! It’s only our 2nd gathering for the year and I have been missing the social interaction. I always feel quite inspired afterwards, and tend to keep on crafting long after they’ve gone.

This is a seahorse embossing folder by Kaiser Craft which I have made numerous cards with previously (see my Pinterest ‘Sea Themed’ board).

I inked up one side of the embossing folder with ‘Tumbled Glass’ and ‘Evergreen Bough’ Distress inks and then spritzed it with water, before placing the white card inside. After rolling it through the Big Shot to emboss, the result was that the background was coloured while the raised areas of the seahorse remained white. (Always hard to photograph white sorry, and have to confess the 2nd image there was taken after completion of my card, as forgot to take a photo of that step).

To colour the seahorse, I ran a sponging block with ‘Wild Honey’ Distress Ink over raised areas, then added brown speckles. I used ‘Evergreen Bough’ Distress re-inker with a waterbrush to colour seahorse body, then fine texter pens to trace around outer ridges.

Below is a 2nd card I made, starting off in exactly the same way, just finishing off differently. I really love the contrast of the peachy pinks against the aqua background.
