My fourth cardbird card 007 from my travel series (but who’s counting?). The piece of white card I stamped the flowers onto had some over spray on it from another project. I thought it added a bit of interebird card 008st, without being overpowering. The flowers “Gossamer” 3865K and wording “Hello” 2631C are by Penny Black. The bird is from Bo Bunny set “Birds of a Feather” #12105440. The flowers have been coloured in with pencils with a blob of “Barn Door” Distress Stickles used to decorate centers. Watercolours were used on the bird, the body cut out, and magic mounted onto card, his legs I drew free-hand.

Tissue Box Bird

tissue bird 003 Looking around for inspiration and I spied this tissue box. Rather than throw it in the bin, I decided to give it a second life by recycling it. You can get two full bird bodies from each box (unfortunately the legs are not complete). The bird on one side is larger than the other, which I didn’t realise at first. Probably would have looked better with the slightly smaller bird. Never mind. I think the bird is pretty enough to use as it is, but for this card, wanted just it’s shape. If you are just using it’s shape, there nothing stopping you from turning it over so that the bird is facing the other way.

For this card: I cut out the bird body, then painted it over with Snowcap Adirondack Dabber Paint. When dry, I added various other shades of paint (mainly Cloudy Blue, Aqua & Lemonade Adirondack Dabbers), till I was happy with the finished look. I used pencils to add a little definition on the wings and sponged some inks over too (Stormy Sky & Mustard Seed Distress & Sepia Archival pads) for shading. I added a dot of Glossy Accents for its eye and highlighted with a dot of white from a sharpie pen when dry.tissue bird 001

The metal bird is by Magenta. I coloured it blue with alcohol inks and added a scrap of the Japanese paper used for the background for his wing. A bit of twig from the garden and some leaves from a Sizzix die. Sponged around the edge of blue card with silver ink pad and mounted onto darker blue backing card. Small Happy Birthday wording by Stamp-It, embossed in silver onto dark blue card and distressed around edges.

Bird’s Song

birds song I love this quote by Henry Van Dyke, it is of great encouragement to those of us who are less than perfect. We have to work with what God’s given us, and constantly stretch ourselves to be the best that WE can be.  I feel that my gift is my imagination and it is my joy to share that with others and let my little light shine, no matter how dimly.

Owl Trio

owl trio - raw

Sometimes I set myself little challenges to use a particular stamp, product or paper that I’ve had a while. I always keep the front cover page from Basic Grey packs I buy as they’re lovely and matt and of course co-ordinate beautifully. The squares are quite tiny though – which is the challenging part. I decided to use the paper pieces with Stamp-it’s “What a Hoot” si2733D stamp, which is not what I would classify a flexible image, but by changing colour schemes and layout, you can achieve quite different looking end results.
